Vermeulen wins thrilling bowls final
Submitted by editor on Mon, 02/28/2005 - 13:28.Ewald Vermeulen of Eros Bowling Club beat Douw Calitz of Windhoek Country Club in a thrilling final to win the men?s title at the Windhoek Closed Singles Bowls Championships on February 27.
Vermeulen beat Calitz by the narrowest of margins, 16 and a half to 16 to qualify for the World Singles Championships, which take place in Australia in November. Calitz, of course, won the World Singles Championships in Australia in 2003.
Moller wins National Triathlon Championships
Submitted by editor on Sun, 02/27/2005 - 22:01.Cordula Moller of Swakopmund was the overall winner of the Coca Cola National Triathlon Championships in Swakopmund on February 26.
Moller led the championships, which consisted of a 1 500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run, from start to finish to win in a time of 2:15:39. Another female triathlete, Zoe Mitchell came second overall in 2:21:21, while the first male Andrew Rowles came third overall in 2:24:49.
David wins Rossing Marathon for third time
Submitted by editor on Sun, 02/27/2005 - 21:57.Salomo David of Welwitchia 77 Athletics Club won the Rossing National Marathon Championships for the third time in Swakopmund on February 26.
David pulled away from Tuhafeni Petrus about 3km before the end to win in a time of 2:22:28. Petrus came second in 2:23:48, while Luketz Swartbooi came third in 2:26:18.
Unam go to the top
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/24/2005 - 07:56.Unam went to the top of the men?s Premier League log after beating Windhoek Old Boys Social Club (WOB) 5-2 in a Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey match on February 23, but they had to work hard to maintain their unbeaten record.
Wanderers beat WOB 3-2
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/24/2005 - 07:53.Wanderers beat Windhoek Old Boys Social Club 3-2 in an uninspiring Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey Women?s Premier League match on February 23.
Corne du Plessis opened the scoring for Wanderers from a 7th minute short corner, but Lizelle van der Walt soon equalised for WOB.
