Briedenhann and Cloete qualify for World Swimming Champs

Christine Briedenhann and Micaela Cloete last weekend qualified for the 10th World Short Course Swimming Championships that are due to be held in Dubai from 15 to 19 December.

This happened at the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU) Gala that took place at the Namibia Swimming Academy (NSA) pool from 3 to 4 September.

Briedenhann (14) set four new Namibian records for the 13 and 14 age group in 100m backstroke with a time of 1:09,88, the 50m butterfly with a time of 29:84, 100m freestyle with a time of 58:87 and the 50m freestyle with a time of 26,93.

NPL unveils new logo

The Namibia Premier League (NPL) unveiled their new logo to the public on Tuesday evening in Windhoek.

The NPL Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Haikali said that the previous logo did not have anything on it that would stick in the minds of people and that is what necessitated the change of logo.

“We need to make sure that NPL stands on its own. We are NPL and not NFA (Namibia Football Association). We need to have an image that lasts in the minds of the people,” Haikali said.

Brave Warriors to travel to India

The Brave Warriors will have little time at home after returning to Windhoek from Gambia on Tuesday morning, since they will once again leave on Saturday to take on India in Delhi in a friendly match next Wednesday, September 15.

The Namibia Football Association agreed to the match after receiving a request from the Indian Football Association who are using the match as part of their preparations for the 2011 Asian Cup of Nations finals which take place in Qatar in January 2011.

Waldschmidt pips Bierbrauer

Another successful and exciting race in the Bank Windhoek NMSF Enduro Championship was held on Saturday, 4 September 2010 at the Tony Rust Race Track outside Windhoek.

During this race, the sixth in the 2010 series, the riders had to cover four laps of the 34 kilometer long rounds. A mix of rocks and river beds made for some tough racing. With Ingo Waldschmidt and Björn Bierbrauer tied in the series, and this being the second last race for 2010, they were set for a fierce battle.

Rugby semi finals at Hage Geingob Stadium

The semi finals of the MTC Rugby Premier League will be played at the Hage Geingob Stadium on Saturday 11 September.

The first semi final will see traditional rivals Rehoboth and Reho Falcons pitted against each other for a chance to play in the final of the 2010 rugby season.

Falcons finished second on the log with 53 points and Rehoboth were third with 43 points.

Falcons have gotten the better of Rehoboth the two times they played against each other during the season. On April 17 Falcons won 30-16 and on 26 June Rehoboth lost the Tommy Jarman Trophy 22-7.
