Equatorial Guinea joins the ranks of the 2013 Cosafa Cup

Equatorial Guinea has been named as the replacement for Tanzania in the COSAFA Cup Zambia 2013 field after the latter were forced to withdraw.


The Taifa Stars became ineligible for the tournament as it clashed with a revised date for their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Uganda in July.

The East African nation was set to make their second visit to the Southern African regional championship that runs from July 6-20 after appearing in the inaugural tournament in 1997.

Maova excited about call up

Rundu Chiefs’ Edward Maova is excited about linking up with Namibia’s senior soccer team, ahead of the Brave Warriors friendly match against Zambia on Saturday.

The match will take place at the Sam Nujoma Stadium and will form part of the African Union’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Maova, who led the Otjozondjupa region to the 2013 Namibia Newspaper Cup title , has been a sensation for Rundu Chiefs this year and said he was looking forward to the experience.

Ahrens wins Olympic Trap Namibian title

Gaby Ahrens beat Namibia’s top male shottists to win the Namibian National Olympic Trap title last weekend.

Competing at the Namibia Olympic Shotgun Range at Luiperdsvalley just oustside Windhoek, Ahrens was the only female shottist competing in the Olympic Trap discipline in the shotgun.

With a total score of 109 out of 125 Ahrens progressed to the final where she met Anton Coetzee in the Gold Medal match.

Coetzee shot 8 out of 15 in the final while Ahrens shot 11 out of 15 to win the gold medal and the 2013 national title.

Etjenne Coetzee won the bronze medal.

Palmgren names 27-man squad

Brave Warriors coach Roger Palmgren named a 27-man squad for a friendly match against Zambia in Windhoek on Saturday, May 25.

Rundu Chiefs’ young goalkeeper Edward Maova and Tigers striker Panduleni Nekundi have been called up for the first time while several other players have been recalled to the squad after prolonged absences.

Namibia U20 beat Boland

Namibia’s national Under 20 rugby team beat Boland U20 36-17 in a friendly match in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

Namibia led 12-0 at halftime and scored six tries in total.

Eighthman Wian Conradie and centre Handre Bezuidenhout each scored two tries while right wing Riekert van der Merwe and fullback Denver Murorua each scored one try.

Murorua added three conversions for a personal tally of 11 points.

Boland scored three tries and one conversion in the second half.

Team manager Gabriel Tjombe said it was a fine all round performance.
