WBA Pan-African welterweight champion Paulus ‘Ali’ Nuumbembe said he is ready to outsmart his German opponent Daniel Kaefer when the two pugilists trade blows in a non-title bout this Friday.
The event will take place at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino and will be preceded by six other fights on the undercard. Nuumbembe’s 23-year-old opponent Kaefer arrived this week in Namibia with his trainer Uwe ‘Commander’ Schuster.
‘’We have enjoyed our stay here in Windhoek thus far and we did not come to lose,’’ Schuster told reporters through an interpreter Hellen Illing. Kaefer was also in upbeat mood saying that he was not looking at disappointing anyone when he steps into the ring against Nuumbembe, who boasts a professional record of 19 wins, three losses and one draw from 23 fights. Kaefer’s record is unlikely to send shivers down the spine of Nuumbembe.
The German national has won on 12 occasions, while he suffered four defeats in his professional record totalling 16 fights.
“I am not going to talk much now but I will rather to the talking in the ring,’’ said Nuumbembe.
In the other fights also taking place on Friday, Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Uushona will trade blows with Zimbabwean Modecai Donga in the welterweight division over six rounds, while Vikapita Meroro will face Fara Musiiwa of Zimbabwe in the super middleweight division over eight rounds.
In the Junior welterweight category, Sacky Shikukutu will face Zama Nceti of South Africa over four rounds, while the flamboyant welterweight boxer Daniel ‘Openfire’ Kashela will trade blows with Boitsepo Mandawe of South Africa over four rounds.
In the lightweight division Jatoorora Tjingaveta will fight against Joseph Modise of South Africa over four rounds. The only bout pitting Namibian boxers against each other will be contested between Martin Haikali and Peter Malakia. The event is officially sponsored by Telecom Namibia who donated N$110 000 to the Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias and Fitness Academy for Friday’s event.
