The second round of the MTC Rugby Premier League commences on Saturday with four matches taking place in Windhoek and Rehoboth.
The log leaders United play host to Wanderers who are struggling at fifth position on the log. Wanderers were however boosted when they received a sponsorship from FNB earlier this week and will be keen to turn the tables on their old rivals.

Namibia up 13 places on FIFA rankings
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/02/2009 - 10:47.Namibia has shot up 13 positions on the FIFA rankings to 115 in the world, following their 4-0 victory against the DR Congo in Windhoek on June 6. Namibia’s brilliant victory against the DRC, who at that stage were ranked 84 in the world, made it one of the biggest movers in the latest FIFA rankings which were released on July 1.
Redelinghuis acquitted
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 16:58.Namibian prop forward Johnny Redelinghuis, who received a red card during Namibia’s 54-14 victory against the Ivory Coast on Saturday, has been acquitted by the International Rugby Board.
The referee sent Redelinghuis off midway through the second half after he adjudged that the Namibian had punched an Ivory Coast player after joining a ruck. At a hearing following the match on Sunday morning, Redelinghuis was however acquitted when the match commissioner admitted that the referee had made a mistake and that the video evidence indicated that Redelinghuis had not hit the player.
FNB sponsors Wanderers rugby
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 13:59.FNB Namibia on Wednesday announced a three-year sponsorship worth at least N$350 000 to Wanderers Rugby Club. At the sponsorship handover, Thomas Slabbert of FNB said that the sponsorship would amount to N$150 000 in cash during 2009, while a further N$100 000 would be committed annually in 2010 and 2011.
In terms of the sponsorship FNB would also obtain naming rights to Wanderers’ rugby field which will forthwith be known as “FNB Home of Wanderers Rugby.”
Top Score 7-a-side finals
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 12:30.After two months of preliminary rounds it’s time for this year’s Top Score 7-A-Side Tournament to draw to a close with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final scheduled to take place on Saturday, 4 July, at the Ramblers Sports Grounds in Windhoek’s Pioniers Park. For the first time since the tournament’s inception all final eight teams will receive prize money.
